HOW TO MAKE S'MORES QUESADILLA (TEXAS-STYLE)
- To prepare this sweet quesadilla recipe, place a length of wax paper on the counter surface. Butter one side of the tortilla. Place buttered side down on wax paper. Lightly sprinkle cayenne pepper on half of the tortilla, if desired. Spread graham cracker crumbs on the same half of the tortilla.
- Remove chocolate bars from wrappers; break them into sections. Position chocolate bar sections on half of the tortilla, breaking to fit so that they don't extend beyond the edge of the tortilla. Evenly sprinkle ½ cup marshmallows over chocolate. Fold the tortilla to cover the filling.
- Heat an ovenproof skillet for several minutes on medium-low heat. Carefully add quesadilla; heat for several minutes or until the tortilla is golden brown and crisp, turning once.
- In a skillet, top the quesadilla with cinnamon sugar and remaining marshmallows. Place in oven on low broil for 1 minute or until marshmallows are lightly browned.
- Remove skillet from oven and drizzle melted chocolate over quesadilla, if desired. Finally, cut into pieces and serve warm. Repeat for desired number of quesadillas.
ABOUT S'MORES
S'more is the short term for "some more." It’s a sandwich cookie consisting of a marshmallow and a piece of chocolate placed between 2 graham crackers. A campfire treat that is very popular in the United States and Canada.
There are many treats made with s’mores, such as HERSHEY'S S'mores Candy Bar, S’mores Pie, S’mores Cake, S’mores Cupcakes, S’mores Dip, S’mores Brownies, and S’mores Cookies.
QUESADILLA RECIPE
A quesadilla is a Mexican dish consisting of a tortilla filled with melting cheese, to which sometimes meats or beans are added, and then cooked on a griddle. It's crispy golden on the outside and gooey inside.
There are many types, including dessert quesadillas made with s'mores, chocolate, dulce de leche, and fruits, as well as other sweet ingredients.
STORAGE
S'mores are a treat that is best eaten right away.
In theory, s'mores can be stored in the fridge although this should be avoided. The reason why is that the melty, gooey marshmallow and chocolate will harden. Plus, the graham crackers will get soggy. The same goes for this Spicy S'mores Quesadilla.
CHEF'S NOTES:
- If you don't have wax paper at home, fill tortilla with cayenne and S'mores ingredients and then melt a spoonful of butter in a skillet, cooking according to the recipe directions.
- If making more than one quesadilla, you can cook them each individually on the stovetop, transfer to a plate while cooking the other(s), and then place them all back into the skillet, top with marshmallows, and broil at one time.
- This is such an easy and quick treat that even children can assemble by themselves and then hand it to an adult to cook.
- A great idea would be a summer-themed s'mores quesadilla bar with all ingredients placed into bowls, left for each person to fill their quesadilla, and then hand away to be cooked all at one time.
- Note that you can find all the ingredients that you need for this quesadilla recipe at H-E-B.
