Ingredients and Substitutions
To make our keto buffalo chicken dip you will need:
- Cream cheese: Make sure it is at room temperature it will mix well with the other ingredients.
- Sour cream: The best type is full fat because it is creamier than a reduced-fat sour cream.
- Hot sauce: Use any of these keto hot sauces with no added sugar. We used Frank's Red Hot Sauce!! If you are not a fan of spicy foods, omit it. We added it to our keto dip recipe because this appetizer is inspired by the famous American buffalo chicken wings or spicy buffalo sauce that contains cayenne pepper hot sauce.
- Seasonings: We used garlic powder, onion powder, and ground black pepper. But you can swap these for any other of your choice.
- Herbs: We used dried chives and fresh scallions (green and white parts) but you can replace the latter with green onions.
- Rotisserie chicken: But using a chicken that has been already cooked, you only have to remove the skin and shred it. This means you can make this chicken dip using leftovers, or even drained canned chicken Some also add pork rinds for a crunch! If you have chicken leftovers, make this buffalo chicken chowder!
- Cheeses: I used shredded cheddar cheese and mozzarella cheese, but you can make our dip with any melting cheese such as fontina, gruyere, Swiss, and more. Just make sure to use shredded cheese that will melt quicker under heat.

Can I Make Buffalo Chicken Dip in the Slow Cooker or Instant Pot instead?
Yes, you can! Just mix all the ingredients according to our recipe and dump them in the crock pot or pressure cooker.
For the Instant Pot, you can cook raw boneless skinless chicken breasts or chicken thighs with some liquid (such as hot sauce and water) for 10 minutes under high pressure. Then, shred the chicken with 2 forks and mix the other ingredients with it. Pour the mixture into a baking dish and bake for 10 minutes and then broil for 2-3 minutes.
For the Slow Cooker, mix all the ingredients in the bowl of the slow cooker, place the lid on, and set to LOW for 3-4 hours or HIGH for 1-2 hours, stirring every 30 minutes.
