Ingredients for Air Fryer Ribeye
This air fryer ribeye steak recipe calls for just 4 ingredients as follows:
- Ribeye steak – Make sure to buy ribeye steaks (either bone-in or boneless) that are 1 inch thick. They will cook quickly without getting dry. The boneless ones cook just a little faster. It is key to take them out of the fridge 20-30 minutes before cooking to guarantee even cooking and also to pat them dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture in order to get a browned crust or exterior.
- Olive oil – It will help them to brown!
- Seasoning blend – It will add great flavor to the meat. After seasoning them, let them absorb the spices for at least 10 minutes at room temp before cooking them. I used our homemade taco seasoning mix!
- Italian seasoning – Mix a store-bought Italian seasoning with our homemade taco seasoning for optimal flavor. It's also used to make the best roast beef recipe.
- Herby butter (OPTIONAL) – It is optional as a topping but it will boost the flavor of the final dish.
Air Fryer Steak Recipe
- To cook this steak in air fryer, remove the steak from the fridge about 20-30 minutes before cooking and pat them dry with a paper towel. It will guarantee even cooking and also a well-browned exterior.
- Meanwhile, preheat your air fryer to 400°F for 5-10 minutes. During this time, brush olive oil all over the steaks and season them well with a mixture of our homemade taco seasoning and Italian seasoning. Let them absorb the spices at room temp for at least 10 minutes.
- Place the steaks into the air fryer basket. You may need to cook in batches depending on the size of your air fryer. In order to cook evenly, you have to leave space for the hot air to circulate!
- Cook each steak for about 8-10 minutes for medium-rare, flipping them halfway through.
- Then, insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part (but not touching the bone if yours is bone-in). It must reach at least 135-145 F for medium-rare. If bone-in, it may take a few minutes more to cook.
- Once cooked, remove the steaks from the air fryer, cover them with foil, and let them rest for 5 minutes to lock in their juices and serve with your favorite sides. I topped mine with a pat of herby butter and served it with cooked low-carb veggies.

Air Fryer Steak Cooking Chart
For boneless ribeye steak that is 1-inch thick, cook for:
- 5-6 minutes (for Rare: 125°-130°F)
- 8-10 minutes (for Medium-Rare: 130°-140°F)
- 12-14 ( Medium: 140°-150°F)
- 16-18 minutes (for Medium-Well: 150°-160°F)
- 20 minutes ( for Well-Done: Over 160°F)
As always, check their internal temperature by inserting a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the steak (without touching the bone though). That is the best way to make sure your steak is cooked to your preferred level of doneness.
According to the FDA, beef must be cooked to at least 145° F (63° C) with a 3-minute rest time to be safe.
Can I cook frozen steak in air fryer?
Yes, although it will take 5-10 minutes longer to cook and the excess moisture may prevent the exterior to brown properly. To do this, place the frozen steak in a preheated air fryer at 400 degrees F and let it “cook” for 5-10 minutes or until defrosted. Then pat dry, season, and cook the steak to your preferred level of doneness.

Your steak looks perfectly cooked. No air fryer here, we sear it on the stovetop and finish it in the oven. We had one last night that looked just like yours, delicious.
